Sarah Palin: Creationist

Okay, here's what I have to say about Sarah Palin. I don't care that she was a beauty queen, or that she has limited experience, or how many kids she has, or that her daughter is pregnant. She's a creationist. McCain's a gambling man and this pick may or may not work out for him, but don't kid yourself that he's trying to poach disgruntled Hillary supporters. He's not. He's giving the fundamentalist Christians a reason to vote for him. As an American scientist, I'll tell you this: our country has the best science in the world. The best. Why do you think people from all over the world come here to do research? Because we're the best. The best funding, the best facilities, the best people, making the best discoveries are all right here in the good old U.S. of A. The administration plays a significant role at the National Institutes of Health and in how much funding is directed towards researching treatments and cures for cancer, diabetes, and infectious disease. Do you really want someone who rejects the basic tenet of biology in charge of our country? I hope not. And I really hope her kids are vaccinated, because if not, I'm really gonna lose my shit.

And while we're on the subject of Vice Presidents, could we please retire the phrase "a heartbeat away from the presidency?" We get it. If the Pres dies, the VP takes over. No need to get overly dramatic about it. At least mix it up a bit; the other organs are getting jealous: "Two functioning kidneys away from the presidency."

You mean like the doctors who delivered Palin's baby?

I kid, I kid. The baby-momma issue is a total loser for we Dems, IMHO. Besides, it's not like we don't have enough other things to discuss, given that Palin is an unqualified, pro-life, secessionist, creationist, flip-flopping wolf-killer. (Hmmm...We might have to shorten that for the bumper sticker.)

Yeah, Dems should stay away from attacking her too much, because it will backfire. She's like a prettier Mike Huckabee- friendly, personable, but still a crazy crazy fundy. Just say no, America.

You know what gets me? The fact that both parties were lamenting how hard it is to find a good woman. Seriously. They were talking about how both sides would be well-served by picking a female VP candidate, but it was like, "Where can we get us one of those?" It seriously makes me so mad. I was elated when McCain picked Palin, until I learned more about her and now I just cringe. But, I still prefer McCain...damn Obama for not picking Hillary. Are smart, talented and normal women that hard to come by in Washington?

Sorry, Palin =/= creationist.

P.S. According to this definition, I'm a creationist, too:

"Creationism is the belief that the Earth and its creatures were created by a deity. It's an alternative to the origin of life explanation taught in public schools under the theory of evolution, which puts forth that all living organisms descended from a common ancestral gene pool."

Now that doesn't mean I think that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago over a seven day period, and that the cavemen were riding on the backs of dinosaurs, but just because you believe in God doesn't make you some kind of a looney.

I agree, there are some wackos out there who take the whole Intelligent Design argument to the limits of fundamentalist ridiculousness, but I don't think we should lump everyone who isn't a agnostic worldly loving secular humanist in with the rest of the freak pit.

I'm sure a good Irish-Catholic girl like you knows that.

The point I'm making is that creationism doesn't belong in the science classroom. It deals with philospophical and/or religious belies, and isn't an alternative theory to evolution. Scientific theories are based upon observation, hypotheses, and experimental data. A belief in God as the creator of the universe is based upon faith.

Okay, so she didn't enact any creation teaching policies during her governorship, but statements like this are what bother me:

When asked during a televised debate in 2006 about evolution and creationism, Palin said, according to the Anchorage Daily News: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."

Anyone who advocates teaching creationism alongside evolution, in my book, is a creationist.

Beth, I know what you mean- couldn't the GOP have found someone better? Well, hopefully after this election, we'll have less "ZOMG female candidate" hysetria in the future. Although a Clinton vs. Palin debate would have been a lot more fun that a Biden vs. Palin.

not to make light of everybody's comments (but really i am) but Sarah Palin looks like a model for LensCrafters. I wish i had come up with that awesome insight on my own but that's from Letterman.

Speaking of things that seriously make me mad...

Who created science?
Who Created your fingers to put gloves on to do experiments?

Someone something created all of this.....

Don't you want to see a good Shot gun wedding in the White House? Now that is pure US of A, right from America's Heartland, Alaska. I kid, I kid.

we do have the best science and all of this research still does not know where we come from.....they are not exactly on to any answers either. We should be glad someone is willing to offer something tangible to your children and family....

If she does take over...think of all of her "bad decisions" sponsered by Midol...
