List #30.. .Alternative Career Choices I've Been Daydreaming About

It's shaping up to be a very busy fall for me in the lab, hence the limited posting of late. Do you what the worst aspect of graduate school is? Well, I'll tell you. It's the lack of a finite ending. I'm starting to feel like Sisphyus, only my punishment involves the eternal pipetting into eppendorfs rather than the ceaseless pushing of a boulder up a hill. Lately, I've been daydreaming about what I would do if I weren't a slave to the biological sciences. I give you:

List #30.. .Alternative Career Choices I've Been Daydreaming About

1. Work at an HIV clinic in Africa
2. Move to Venice and work in a hotel
3. FBI or CIA agent
4. Become Steven Hawking's assistant

Hawking is the MAN.

He knows the zombie necropalypse is coming.

Heed his creepy warning.

Eileen, all of those jobs are definitely doable. The CIA is always looking for people. I know people in the CIA and FBI if you want to talk to someone. And if you want to be Steven Hawking's assistant, let me know b/c I can get you in touch with his former assistant (friend of a friend from Cambridge). I don't think he liked the job too much, though. Although Hawking is a bit of a ladies man (no joke) so there's always some good gossip. And if you like Hawking, you should definitely check out http://www.mchawking.com/. The site used to be a lot better with free audio files to listen to, but you can still read the lyrics which are top notch. Then imagine the lyrics being rapped through a voice synthesizer. Best song ever? "All my shootings be drive bys"! Absolute classic.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I think I probably will stick it out with this whole PhD thing, and then start to explore options when I get closer to finishing.
