Friday Photo

The two on the left are a bit young to be blamed for their stylistic problems, but the one on the right is definitely in the prime of her awkward years. Great androgynous haircut, and I especially like the look of the boxer shorts peeking out from underneath a pair of soccer shorts. Ugly white sneakers must have standard issue from 1985 through 1991 or so, because they've shown up in almost every Friday Photo.

In case any of you were trying to figure out the gender of the awkward horror...it is a girl! that female bowl haircut was just the stepping stone for an even more awkward one, though stylish at the time..."the assymetrical". I did manage to figure out how to pull off the boxers/under umbros look eventually...however, i think the style was long gone by then. (or was that only a trend amongst NJ female soccer players?)

As for the other two...well, they went through a few more awkward phases, designed by their own stylistic choices...though i think they have only recently grew out of their awkwardness; but you can be the judge ;-)

I would have had NO IDEA who that was without you fessing up, Jess. This is quite the classic family photo...

Ern, ain't you proud of yo' man!

you can tell we all had an obsession with cartoons, as we are all sporting them in one aspect of our wardrobe? and that is my dad dressed up as Chip, of the Chip and Dale duo. j/k

So I am the one in the middle and I think I look pretty damn cute, far from awkward. Not sure about the other two.

fan-tastic. i love the multi-family member pix - more bang for the buck, definitely. the bowl haircut is precious!! and sadly, girl soccer players in eastern mass also went through the boxer-under-umbros stage. yikes. and wow, that one on the left (wearing the, um, distinctive dragon hat) is really attractive. i just can't figure out how he stands up on those toothpicks...

ern, you crack me up.

of course patty, you were always cute; I'll give you that. but the hat?!? I guess, as the saying goes, "when in Disney...". That would also give the one on the left an excuse for the distinctive dragon hat

I'm mostly intrigued by this boxers-under-Umbros phenomen. I can definitively state that this fad did NOT reach Indiana in the 1990's.
