Looking for a good laptop

My desktop at home died a few months ago, and I've decided to replace it with a laptop. I've never had a laptop before and, despite this whole blogging thing, I am far from technologically savvy. Looking to spend less than a grand, and sorry Mac lovers, I'm sticking to PCs. Any recommendations or things I should know, like about batteries, wireless cards, or whatever? I've had decent luck with Dell computers in the past, but I may be able to get a lower price on Sony or Lenovo.

Hey Eileen. I just got a Dell Inspiron E1505 in October. I really like it so far. It cost around $780 with the options I got.

I'd go with Dell too. Much luck with them ... I have a Dell at home that I pretty much have not turned off in about 4 years.

Hey - I also recommend Dell. Kim and I have about 4 of them in the house right now. www.gotapex.com generally has good deals on Dells, via coupons and whatnot. For example, their top deal right now is an Inspiron 6400 for $629.
